Born in the Netherlands, he studied biology and specialized in tropical ecology. He worked in public and private institutions expanding his research area towards climate change, community forest management and rural livelihoods. He is recognized as one of the most cited scientists in Bolivia and has also produced a large number of publications on sustainable development options for the Bolivian Amazon including the use of Non-Timber Forest Products such as Brazil-nuts, cacao and acai, agroforestry and ecotourism. He is also very active in various inter-institutional commissions and platforms on issues related to rural development, including the promotion of complex productive Amazonian fruits, disaster risk management, the promotion of ecotourism and actions to protect biodiversity.
“Citizen experience of control of public management and participation in the decisions of the construction of roads in the Andean Amazonian foothills Mocoa Putumayo Colombia” by Edgar Torres
Agronomist born in Bogotá and has been living in the city of Mocoa Putumayo in the Andean Amazon foothills for 20 years. He has worked with civil society organizations on organizational, food sovereignty, environmental issues, control of public management and promotion of citizen participation. Since 2011, he has been coordinating the citizen oversight for the construction of the Mocoa – San Francisco road section of the mega multimodal project IIRSA Tumaco (Colombia) Belem do Pará (Brazil), a project that is paralyzed and underway.
